Do Great Hygiene — and Build a Career Somewhere You Can Stay
Smiles Dental Group is looking for a Registered Dental Hygienist who takes pride in excellent clinical care, builds strong relationships with patients and wants to be part of a practice for the long term.
We’re a locally owned Alberta dental group with seven locations serving Edmonton and surrounding communities.
Our hygienists are respected as clinical professionals and important members of the patient-care team. We expect high standards, strong communication and accountability — but we don’t believe great hygiene comes from rushing patients or using pressure-based treatment conversations.
We want our hygienists to provide excellent care, continue developing professionally and have the opportunity to build a rewarding long-term career with Smiles.
Compensation & Benefits
We believe candidates should understand the opportunity clearly before accepting a position.
Our full-time RDH package includes:
- $50–$65/hour, based on directly relevant experience and clinical capabilities
- Performance bonus of up to $750 per month — up to $9,000 annually
- $5,000 signing bonus for eligible candidates with two or more years of experience
- Extended health and dental benefits after three months
- Family dental allowance
- Continuing-education allowance
- Paid CE opportunities where applicable
- Paid vacation
- Permanent full-time employment
- Structured onboarding and ongoing support
- Opportunities for continued clinical and leadership development
The performance-bonus criteria will be explained clearly during the recruitment process so you understand how the program works before accepting an offer.
What Your Workday Should Feel Like
Compensation matters. So does the environment you’re working in every day.
We want our hygienists to have the systems, equipment and team support required to provide thorough care while maintaining an efficient schedule.
You’ll work with an established patient base and collaborate closely with dentists, assistants, administrators and other hygienists.
We value hygienists who combine strong clinical skills with excellent patient communication.
That means:
- Thorough periodontal assessment
- Appropriate periodontal care planning
- Strong instrumentation skills
- Clear patient education
- Complete and timely clinical documentation
- Appropriate continuing-care recommendations
- Efficient schedule management
- Strong patient relationships
- Collaboration with the dentist and broader clinical team
We expect hygienists to identify disease and confidently recommend appropriate care.
We do not expect pressure-based treatment selling.
Our goal is for patients to understand their oral health, understand the recommendations being made and be able to make informed decisions about their care.
What You’ll Do
You’ll provide comprehensive preventive and periodontal care within your professional scope, including:
- Periodontal assessment and charting
- Scaling and root planing
- Polishing and preventive therapy
- Fluoride and sealants as appropriate
- Diagnostic radiographs as authorized
- Patient education and home-care coaching
- Accurate clinical documentation
- Continuing-care planning
- Collaboration with dentists on comprehensive patient care
Just as importantly, you’ll help patients understand what you’re seeing clinically and why recommended treatment or changes to their continuing-care schedule may matter.
Who Thrives at Smiles
We’re looking for more than someone who can fill a hygiene column.
This opportunity is likely a strong fit if you:
- Take pride in delivering thorough, patient-centred care
- Have strong periodontal assessment and instrumentation skills
- Communicate clinical findings confidently and respectfully
- Build genuine, long-term relationships with patients
- Make appropriate treatment recommendations without pressure
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation
- Take ownership of your schedule and responsibilities
- Are dependable and prepared
- Communicate directly when something isn’t working
- Work collaboratively with dentists, RDAs, administrators and fellow hygienists
- Accept feedback and continue developing professionally
- Contribute positively to the patient and team experience
- Want to find a practice where you can build a long-term career
Two or more years of general-practice experience is preferred.
We will also consider strong newer graduates who demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, accountability and a genuine desire to develop.
Professional Development
We don’t expect good clinicians to stop developing once they’re hired.
Smiles provides a continuing-education allowance and additional professional-development opportunities to help our hygienists continue building their skills.
Depending on your interests and performance, development may include clinical education, patient communication, periodontal care, technology, mentoring and leadership development.
As a seven-location dental group, we also have opportunities that don’t always exist within a single-location practice.
Strong team members who demonstrate clinical excellence, leadership and accountability may have opportunities over time to contribute to mentoring, training, clinical improvement or leadership within the group.
If you want more from your career than simply working a hygiene schedule, we’d like to know where you want to go.
Technology & Clinical Support
Our practices invest in modern technology and digital workflows, including:
- iTero digital scanning
- CBCT imaging
- Digital radiography
- Modern practice-management and clinical documentation systems
- Additional clinic-specific clinical technology and equipment
We believe technology should improve diagnosis, patient education, clinical efficiency and patient care — not replace clinical judgment.
How We Define Success
Performance matters at Smiles, but production alone does not define a successful hygienist.
We look at the complete picture.
Successful Smiles hygienists:
- Provide excellent, patient-centred clinical care
- Identify periodontal conditions appropriately
- Make sound and ethical clinical recommendations
- Communicate findings effectively
- Help patients understand and follow through with appropriate care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Build patient trust and retention
- Manage their schedules responsibly
- Are dependable and accountable
- Support their teammates
- Continue developing professionally
- Contribute to an excellent patient experience
What you achieve matters. How you achieve it matters too.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program
- Active registration and practice permit in good standing with the applicable Alberta dental-hygiene regulator
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Current CPR certification as required
- Strong periodontal assessment, instrumentation and patient-education skills
- Consistent and timely clinical documentation
- Dentrix or similar practice-management experience is an asset
