Symptoms of Burning Mouth Syndrome

The primary sign of BMS is a pain in the mouth that is tingling, scalding, or burning or a feeling of numbness. Other symptoms of BMS include altered taste in the mouth or dry mouth.

BMS is a painful condition. Generally, the tongue is affected; however, the pain may also be in the roof of the mouth or lips or incomplete mouth. The pain can persist for months or even years. Some people also feel constant pain. For some, pain alleviates throughout the day. Some people also experience less pain when drinking or eating.

  • Salivary flow test
  • Oral swab tests
