Dental problems can be very detrimental, so we have to be cautious enough to learn and interpret ways to prevent them. Brushing your teeth twice a day, daily flossing and going for regular dental check-ups are some preventive measures. There are some common dental problems that you may come across if you don’t take proper care of your teeth. The most common are:
1. Tooth Sensitivity:
Tooth sensitivity can be caused by just about anything like cavities, impacted wisdom tooth, gum diseases and more. You may experience discomfort from brushing and flossing if you suffer from tooth sensitivity. However, the good news is that sensitive teeth can be easily treated.
Do not hesitate to visit a dentist if you face tooth sensitivity because ignoring it may be hazardous. Moreover, tooth sensitivity caused due to accidents should be treated with much more importance and shown to a dentist immediately, as prolonging it only leads to more pain.
2. Mouth Sores:
Mouth sores are of different types and all of them are annoying. They usually last for a couple of weeks and also disappear on their own, so there is nothing to worry about. There are two general types of mouth sores – canker sores and herpes.
Canker sores are non-virus based. They can be caused by everything from stress to a plain hereditary problem. It takes about 12 days or so for canker sores to heal, but if they last longer than that, then you should visit a dentist to avoid further uninvited complications.
3. Gum Disease:
Usually, three factors such as bad oral hygiene, smoking and genetic susceptibility causes gum disease. Gingivitis is a milder form gum disease commonly occurs in teens, however, gum disease sufferers often don’t show any symptoms at least till their 30’s or 40’s.
A severe form of gum disease is Periodontitis, which is often linked to a greater risk of heart attacks or strokes. This can be caused by the bacteria inhaled or that enter your blood through the gums, gradually affecting your heart and lungs. Constant bad breath, swollen or bleeding gums and loose or sensitive teeth are some symptoms of gum disease
There are some treatments for various gum diseases that include scraping tartar from below the gum line or deep cleansing. Regular brushing and dental check-ups play a vital role in preventing gum diseases.
4. Bad Breath/ Halitosis:
Bad breath is also called Halitosis and it can be very embarrassing to live with. It is the most common dental problem found in adults everywhere. There are a number of people who use mouthwash to cover up bad breath. However this only masks the odor, but does not cure it. Bad breath can lead to other number of problems like gum disease, oral cancer, dry mouth and bacteria on your tongue. Daily tongue scraping is a simple preventive measure which can reduce the chances of halitosis.
Despite brushing twice a day and undergoing various preventive measures, if you face any dental problems, then you should visit a dentist immediately. Dental problems should never be ignored as they only increase the pain and suffering in later stages.
